Department of Natural Resources

Bernie Newman believes Wisconsin’s natural resources are among our state’s greatest assets and should be managed through a balanced approach that respects conservation, outdoor traditions, and the voices of the people who enjoy and protect them. He supports reforming Department of Natural Resources funding to ensure fees remain fair and reasonable for hunters, anglers, and outdoor families while maintaining strong stewardship of Wisconsin’s lands and waters.

Bernie believes hunters and anglers deserve a larger role in shaping DNR policies and decision-making, recognizing that those who spend time in the field and on the water bring valuable firsthand knowledge and experience. Bernie also believes the partnership between state government, the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, the Natural Resources Board, and the DNR should be strengthened to encourage better communication, greater public input, and more practical conservation policies. In addition, Bernie supports protecting Second Amendment rights and moving firearm regulations closer to the freedoms outlined in the Constitution, including support for Constitutional carry.
